Overview

The Kykkos Watermill has been declared an ancient monument and has been restored by the Department of Antiquities. It is one of the most valuable monuments of Kalopanagiotis and a magnet for many visitors. It is located approximately one kilometer south of the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Lampadistis in a green environment. Following the circular route that starts from Agios Ioannis Lampadisti Street or the Venetian Bridge, you will reach the watermill located approximately in the middle of the route. There you will rest and remember ways of life of another era, when the millstones combined their song with the sound of the water flowing in the river, sometimes wild and rushing, sometimes quiet and purring. An imposing monument, it is an important example of pre-industrial technology in Cyprus. (see Activities, Hiking 2nd Route) The Kykkos Mill belonged to the Kykkos Monastery. The entire complex of buildings that make it up is preserved. Above the high arch passes the groove that brought the water to the high tower the "anaolo" from where it fell with force to the lowest point of the mill in an arched area.
